About Spiral Fusion Designs

Spiral Fusion Designs came about when I started experimenting with copper silver welds. A flattened copper wire spiral worked quite well with this technique and the initial results were a bit crude and inconsistent but visually quite impressive and an artisan friend suggested that I come up with a name for my new pendant line and the name "Spiral Fusion" came into my head instantly. As I began to master the technique and produce more consistent results, I began to challenge my self to come up with more designs based on spirals. I soon started to set stones in my welded spirals and design bracelets, earrings, rings and full necklaces with my welded spirals and then began to produce these designs in sterling silver as well.

As for myself, I am a self taught jeweler. I spent several years studying drawing, painting and printmaking but never even considered jewelry. I first started making wire jewelry on an extended trip to Mexico where I found an extensive street jewelry scene that fascinated me. I quite quickly learned a very good wire jewelry technique and among the designs I learned was the basic wire spiral--used more as a decorative element than anything else. I played around, on and off, with jewelry making for several years but never really took it that seriously until the summer of 2005 when I found myself suddenly unemployed. I had been working as an electrician and had quite a bit of scrap copper wire around and began to make jewelry out of it and began to take it to the Taos Gorge Bridge where there was quite an active, if informal, artists market. I soon met a few silversmiths who inspired me to expand my technique. I taught myself the basics of silver smithing and began to experiment with welding. I had heard years ago that it was possible to weld copper with silver and began to experiment with the technique. The results were better than I had ever imagined. It soon became one of the mainstays of my jewelry. Since then, I have devoted myself as much as possible to my jewelry and currently earn most of my living with it.
